Photo of the Month - February 2001
There is a wonderful variety of excellent activities that Scouts take part in. Flying is one of those activities and Air Scouts are troops that specialise in this. Colin Knowles, a Scout Leader, sent in these photo of two Scouts who have been Gliding.
Greetings. Here are some pictures I took on 27 January 2001 at Dunstable Gliding Club. This was the closest weekend date to the Air Scouts Diamond Jubilee. Pictured are Dany (left) and Robert (right.) Both are Scouts in the 2nd Hitchin Air Scout Troop, Hitchin District, Hertfordshire. The cockpit shots are of myself, Colin Knowles SL, and Dany. The 2nd Hitchin have been instrumental in setting up gliding facilities with the Falkes Flying Foundation. We have the use of a Blanik Glider and a SF25C Falke Motor Glider. The operation has grown and facilities are now available for Scouts at Lasham Gliding Club in Hampshire.
Colin Knowles who sent in the photos tells us more ...
You might like to know that gliding air experience flights and week / weekend camps are available to any Scout Troop anywhere in the country. The Falkes Flying Foundation and Hitchin District Scouts will welcome any other Troop. If they are some distance away they are welcome to camp or stay in the Gliding Club's accomodation.
This must have been a memorable experience!
